Success Story
Our engineer Richard recently had the pleasure of travelling to Papua New Guinea to work with the great people from Bank South Pacific at their Port Moresby office. Richard was responsible for the installation and set-up of their new i570 Power 6+ System i, with 2 Frames, 5 LPARs and over 5 TB of storage. . . It was a LARGE and COMPLEX Project!
The whole project went very smoothly, and without a hitch. The reason we experienced NO pain is because all the work was done inhouse, prior to Richard going over to PNG. The equipment was built and configured at our premises, and then we prepared the system for installation of the 5 partitions.
This included installing OS400 and CUME five times (5 partitions requires 5 installs) and the latest version of HMC. The disk systems were configured with both RAID and mirroring.
Once the system was completed and staged, it was completely dismantled and split down to individual assemblies. For example, each 0595 expansion unit (there were 8 of them) was:
- removed from their rack,
- labelled,
- photographed,
- individually wrapped and
- packed into tailor made shipping crates lined with a 20mm layer of poly-foam.
Our Warehouse Manager and his team have over 35 years experience in freight
So it is of no surprise that the equipment arrived in PNG exactly how it left our warehouse. All up it was a substantial consignment of nearly 2 tonnes.
