I will be the first to admit that this title may be a little misleading. In fact, WebEx Teams has existed for almost two and a half years now – It has just been masquerading under a different name. As of April 18, Cisco announced that they are edging towards a much more unified collaboration portfolio. Goodbye Cisco Spark – Hello Webex Teams.
Since the first announcement of Spark in 2015, many customers struggled to understand the differences it held with Cisco’s current collaboration powerhouse, Webex. Despite the strong marketing push that followed, it is safe to assume this confusion would have negatively impacted the sales of both platforms.
The Cisco Spark portfolio has grown substantially since it’s first iteration, so please see below a summary of the changes that have taken place;
- Spark has now become Webex Teams
- The current Webex has now become Webex meetings
- Spark for developers has now become Webex for developers
- Spark boards and room kits have now become Webex boards and room kits
As a firm believer in the importance of product marketing, I personally cannot commend Cisco enough for this bold step forward.
At Computer Merchants, we use Webex Teams in our own offices and love the functionality. Webex Teams is an app for continuous teamwork with video meetings, group messaging, file sharing and white boarding.
