Mobile computing is a hot topic lately and for good reason – as technology continues to evolve, the ability to work remotely is easier than ever. There are a few trends in this area that we see growing in the next few years.
Connected everywhere, all the time
The advent of mobility in the workforce and in our everyday lives means we are more connected than ever before. This is only going to increase every day as the barriers are taken down one by one. Employees will be able to work in transit, from home or halfway across the world with ease. Creating specific boundaries and ensuring proper security will be paramount for businesses.
There are currently over 453 million connected wearable devices worldwide, set to reach 835 million by 2020. We see them everywhere and they are becoming an important part of many people’s lives, whether to simply tell the time or to track steps and sleep or send notifications straight to a user. The data in these devices is immense and could be of great benefit for many businesses as wearables continue to rise.
Changing screen sizes
When mobile phones first gained popularity, companies were making them smaller each year. Now, we are looking for larger, at least in screen size. Back in 2007, the average screen size was just 7.6cm. In 2016, screens grew to an average of 12.7cm. This transforms these devices into something more, offering an all-in-one product that can do almost anything.
The Internet of Things
With the average digital consumer owning 3.6 connected devices, there is more to the device network than just a phone and computer! Many people now own laptops and PCs, as well as phones, tablets, wearables and other devices that all connect, creating the Internet of Things. This will only grow, adding more to the data pool for businesses to use.
No device serves one purpose anymore and this is not looking to change! Laptops in particular are seeing an evolution. Lenovo’s Yoga laptops demonstrate just this, offering a powerful product in a thin casing with four different usage modes that allow you to rotate the screen up to 180 degrees with ease.
