Regardless of what industry you are in, it is safe to say that this is a very unique time for all of us. What were priorities only a few weeks ago have been pushed aside, and a whole new set of challenges have taken their place. As many of you know, Computer Merchants is a phone based business, and the last few weeks have been no exception. Our Account Managers and Customer Service team have been on the front line of these calls, so we thought we would ask what they are currently seeing in the market, by asking the following:

  1. What have your customers needed in the last 1-3 weeks?
  2. Have you seen any shifts in what they are beginning to need now?
  3. What are your personal predictions on what customers will need in the coming months?

For what it is worth, the answer to question 1 will not shock anybody reading this. Anything that relates to ‘remote working’ is in extremely high demand. We never really think twice about how well we are set-up to work in our regular environment. When your entire staff need a laptop, monitor/s, dock, keyboard, mouse and headset migrated to their living room however, it is amazing how quickly gaps can be found.

What technologies are crucial to your IT environment?

Now that this initial challenge is getting wrapped-up for a lot of you, the next big task is to ensure that this sudden spread of your environment is not leaving you exposed. Ensuring that your DR and Backup solutions are working remotely, your end-point protection licenses are up-to-date and that your VPN’s or VDI’s are handling the traffic are all key to your staff having a seamless working experience from home.

What will come next is unknown, especially with the Australian government releasing more and more announcements that businesses must react to. For those who are working away from their office, but are still fortunate enough to have budget, now may be a good time to investigate how AI and Machine Learning could be utilised in your business. For those who are new to having staff work remotely, perhaps an updated lifecycle management system to track your assets is worth exploring. And for those who have a presence across the country, without IT staff present everywhere, this may be a good opportunity to see how Managed Services could make your life easier.

No matter the situation you are in, Computer Merchants are here to help and support you in whatever way we can. Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can be of assistance in these trying times.
