As many of you are aware, all iSeries machines built and sold by Computer Merchants have default passwords pre-loaded with accompanying documentation outlining the rack configuration, software installed, information about license keys etc.
Many of our clients change these passwords upon delivery of their new equipment and we do encourage you to change these. In the last couple of weeks a few customers have rung because they have forgotten what they have changed it to, or the process of changing the password didn’t go quite right and both the old and the new are gone.
So we thought we would include the process for you here.
How to Reset the Dedicated Service Tools (DST) Password
To perform the following you must have Security Officer Status (QSECOFR) and the authority to perform this task.
- IPL the system in “Normal” mode
- Once logged in as the Security Officer type in “
CHGDSTPWD“ - On the next screen select
*DEFAULT, this will change your password to QSECOFR default. - Restart your system in “attended mode” (Manual), and change the password to a new value, follow the menus, or refer to Changing user IDs and Passwords for Dedicated Service Tools Users.
It is very important NOT to leave the DST password set to the default, this is a security exposure, as this is the value shipped with every machine and is commonly known.
