IBM i5/OS V5R4 To Be Released Early 2006IBM have not yet officially announced the exact release date of their next Operating System to replace V5R3.
Rumour has it that this new version, tipped to be called i5/OS V5R4 will be released in the first quarter of 2006.
Some of the new features that are believed to be included are:
- RAID 6 – in the event of a disaster this algorithm can cater for the loss of 2 disks in a RAID set and still recover the lost data.
- SCSI Attach IXA Adapters – a direct SCSI attach to the xSeries means you will not need to use a HSL link and adapter card in an external xSeries, as is used now.
- IPv6 – using different IP addressing methods, giving you use of more IP addresses and more security.
