Tips For Upgrading The HMC To Version 7.3.3

If you are contemplating upgrading to HMC Code 7.3.3., here are a couple of tips that may assist you when you perform the install.

  • After you have imported your system plan or created your LPAR’s, you may get this error when you open up a 5250 console session:
    • HMC not configured for this LPAR and A600 5xxx
  • At this point if you have a look at the properties for this partition, you will notice the HMC reports under settings as:
    • SLOT Ø VIRTUAL 1/0
  • It needs to report as SLOT 1. To correct this you need to upgrade to Service Pack 1, re-install package MH01105.

This is available online as IBM System i Support, SOFTWARE TECHNICAL DOCUMENT 488437896 it is very easy to do, but make sure you backup your HMC data first.

You may find that even if you have performed this upgrade, the problem still exists. Simply:

  • click into tagged 1/0,
  • change the console setting to something else (anything will do),
  • save this profile,
  • then go back into the console profile,
  • change the setting back to HMC,
  • then proceed as normal.

You won’t see a change to SLOT 1, until you IPL and start the 5250 session.  Also I have performed this procedure with an active partition.
