1. Consolidate resources from heterogeneous storage systems

The external storage virtualisation function enables customers to grow their storage utilising existing equipment. Storwize V7000 can also enable advanced features for the virtualised storage, allowing customers to deploy low-cost storage systems that lack support for these features or avoid paying licensing fees to enable these features on the individual arrays.

  1. Integration with other IBM technologies and other vendor hardware

Storwize V7000 is tightly integrated with other IBM technologies such as Systems Director and Tivoli Productivity Center (TPC) for advanced manageability, as well as Tivoli FlashCopy Manager and Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack for advanced backup and disaster recovery solutions. Storwize V7000 supports storage arrays from all major vendors including IBM, EMC, Fujitsu, HDS, HP, and NetApp so customers can make use of existing equipment.

  1. Active/Active Controllers

The IBM Storwize V7000 has two or four active controllers (configuration dependant) with front-end cache and switched SAS back-end drive connections. Competing products commonly offer active/passive controllers – only operating half the time.

  1. Multiple drive types, Greater capacity

Customers have the choice between 15,000 rpm, 10,000 rpm, 7,200 rpm SAS and SSD’s giving up to 480 TB in a single device or 32PB combined internal and external storage in a cluster.

  1. Ease of Use

The IBM Storwize V7000 Software features an easy-to-use, intuitive GUI and has a similar feel to the enterprise XIV management interface. Single click presets allow a client to set up raid, create volumes and perform copy services. Visualisations for task flow and system configurations are also in built.

  1. Supported Host Platforms

The IBM Storwize V7000 has a large number of supported host platforms including z/VSE, IBM AIX, VIOS, IBM i with VIOS, HP-UX, Solaris, SGI IRIX, Linux, Windows, Citrix Xen, Mac OS, Open VMS, Tru64, NetWare and VMware.

  1. Performance

IBM are proactive in publishing performance data for their products. The Storwize V7000 base model with one controller enclosure delivers a burst I/O rate of 925,000 IOPS with a sustained throughput of 3,900 MB/s, sustained disk read of 335,000 IOPS with external FC, 224,000 IOPS with internal SSD and 80,000 IOPs with internal HDD
