Have you ever had one of those days that you feel like every step that you take forward you seem to go backward two? I had one yesterday. I had a list of “to do’s” and had planned out my day to get them done. I knew that the day was going against me when by lunch time whilst I had taken some jobs off of my list, the list had grown, and substantially!
What made things worse was that every job I seemed to do, whilst in my mind was a fairly straight forward task, seem to multiply into a complex sequence of activities, each dependent on a variety of factors that were often reliant on the availability of other people and or resources that were not available when I needed them.
It meant that by the end of the day, rather than having a list of completed tasks, I had a longer list of follow-ups that I continue working on today!
P.S. I’m glad that I can cross this letter off of my list!
Welcome to life! Task multiplication and complexity seems to go hand in hand with living in a complex and multi-faceted society.
The technologies that we use day to day can help us to get more done but if they are not managed properly they can actually add to our burdens. It’s why there are so many products available now that help to automate those regular tasks as well as keep us informed of potential issues, so that we don’t have to fix problems once it’s too late.
Have a chat to the nice people at Computer Merchants about their services around monitoring and management and see if they can help to shorten your “to do” list.
P.S. another job ticked off!
